Who We Are
Launched by the UN Secretary-General at the 2018 UN General Assembly, Generation Unlimited is a global Public-Private-Youth Partnership anchored in UNICEF and dedicated to connecting 1.8 billion young people to education, employment, and entrepreneurship opportunities.
In Egypt, the initiative is known as Shabab Balad. It was launched during the 4th World Youth Forum on 11 January 2022 in Sharm El Sheikh under the auspices of H.E. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. Governed by a high-level Advisory Board and Coalition, Shabab Balad brings together government, the private sector, youth and development partners to serve as Egypt’s national platform for Public-Private-Youth Partnerships (PPYP).
The initiative targets Egypt’s 28 million young people aged 10–29 — representing 27 per cent of the population — with the ambition of ensuring they are in education, equipped with skills, employed, engaged in entrepreneurship, or making a positive contribution to society by 2027.
Our Goal: By 2027, 13 million young people – 46 per cent of Egypt’s youth – will be in secondary education, trained, decently employed, have access to entrepreneurship opportunities, or be positively engaged in their communities.
Advisory Board
The Shabab Balad Advisory Board brings together 15 high-level leaders from government, the United Nations, the private sector, civil society and youth to provide strategic leadership and guide the initiative’s direction.
Coalition
The Shabab Balad Coalition convenes multi-sectoral partners to address policy challenges, close gaps, and expand access to education, skills, employment, and entrepreneurship — prioritizing young women and digital inclusion.
Ambassadors
The Shabab Balad Ambassadors are a group of Egypt’s inspiring athletes, actors and changemakers who use their voices and platforms to connect with and empower young people across Egypt.
